Merchants Benefits and Sponsorship

Establishing a high quality high school in Key Biscayne will not only provide significant benefits to the community, but will substantially enhance business opportunities for our local retail and real estate businesses.

Retail business going out of our island

We estimate over US $11,700,000 of disposable income leave the island each year just to pay for tuition at private schools.

In addition, millions of dollars are spent at retail businesses off of the island each year as parents schedule their shopping trips around drop off and pick up times at off of the island schools.

From a business standpoint, our local businesses rely on the loyalty of their customers and the network within the community to provide our stability. For an isolated island bordering one of the largest and most cosmopolitan cities in the country, sending our own retail business away from the village is cause to wonder what kind of school of economics we are following.

What can merchants expect with a high quality school in Key Biscayne?

A stronger customer base of 600 children and their families without a need to commute off the island to attend school (400 high schoolers plus 200 elementary and middle school children that would remain in the Village).

Over time, we would expect not less than 30% of those children attending private school to remain in the island. These children would attend either private or public elementary and middle schools in Key Biscayne, as they would have a high quality high school to attend at later years.

This conservative estimation would translate to at least $4,000,000 of disposable income available to some residents, with less desire to go off of the island just to do their shopping, and about 600 more students (and their families) that will not have the need to commute out of the island on a daily basis.

Real Estate businesses will significantly benefit as improvement of public education options will increase demand for Key Biscayne properties.

The secondary school will also provide an opportunity for internship programs as well as a part time labor force with more time as they do not have to commute out of the island.

Tax money coming back to our community

Implementing the high school in the form of a Municipal Charter School will also allow our community to get back some of the tax money we already pay to Miami-Dade County. We estimate $2.8M to $3.0M will be coming back to our community and will cover school's operating expenses.

We would expect an increase in demand by school's students and staff for products and services provided by our local merchants.

You can make a difference, and benefit from it.

You can significantly contribute to the establishment of a real community and the development of a more sustainable business environment by supporting and sponsoring proposed Charter High School and Lifelong Learning Center.
